Activities
EENGO initially worked particularly with Afghan
refugees and asylum seekers combining advice and support and support
system with provision of sport facilities. This combination of services
and programmes makes the organisation unique in its provision package.
Because of that it works on one side with agencies supporting only
the target group in its different and complex needs and also gets
involved with agencies specialised in sport activities on the other.
From 2000 to 2001, EENGO has been gradually increasing contacts
with organizations from other ethnic groups and nationalities.
In 18 August 2002, EENGO organised an event - Community
Family Festival, held at Ealing Town Hall. Participants included
families from all sections of the community who used this opportunity
to celebrate their cultures and exchange ideas. Activities involved
poetry recitation, culture and music performances and presentations
discussing issues of interest for local communities. The main topics
of the day agenda were: launch of EENGO, Afghan culture, Afghan
custom parade, cultural show from non-Afghan groups, women issues,
and presentation of awards and gifts.
A cultural event and annual sport festival including
a conference focusing on sports and educational issues was held
in Wilesden Sports Centre on 14/7/02. The festival consisted of
the following teams: football, taewkondo, westling and boxing. Between
400 and 500 people attended the sports festival and conference.
All the teams which participated were given trophies and prices.
The event was so successful that participants and members from the
local communities requested EENGO to organise more of such activities
in the future.
The second event organised was a 5 site Football Winter Tournament
held in GOALS Wembley from 12.00 noon to 6.00 pm on 3/11/02. The
event consisted of 36 teams on 5 sites. Trophies and medals were
awarded to the winning team and best palyers of the tournament.
Another Football Tournament started on 26/1/03 and was completed
on 11/5/03. This time it was a 7 site Tournament held in Bridge
Park complex. All participant teams were registered with the FA.
The aim of the competition was to establish union teams which play
national and international teams. EENGO finds it hard to pursue
its ambitious programme of sport activities without funding for
several support workers and volunteers required in sports, and particularly
football.
In our previous report I had mentioned that we
are going to establish a union football team which will take part
in national and international competitiins and now we have this
team. As a result of our good relationship and regular contacts
with organisation like FA and other famous like FIFA organisation
etc, for the first time our union football team was invited to take
part in THE INNER CITY WORLD CUP football Tournament on the 26th
to 27th July 2003 and, 31 July to 01 Augest 2004 the Afghan football
team became the best players and got third stage.
A summer football tournament with the participation
of 12 football teams was organised from 28 May to 10 August 2003.
This sporting activity, which took place in Rectory Park, Parkfield
Avenue, Northolt, gathered more than 600 people from different nationalities
and backgrounds. During this tournament, which can be considered
as a social and especially cultural event, people could communicate
and share their problems and achievements. It was also an opportunity
to explain the government views and policies on the immigration
issues. Several other voluntary organisations were present. In the
final and semi final of this Tournament we had hold a sport festival
in Eading Football Club, in Hayes UB3 0SL on the 10 August the afghan
United football team became a Champion Trophies and medals were
awarded to all teams. We have held different competitions to widen
our circle of friendship and to engage as many communities as we
can.
On the 12th September to18th October 03 the EENGO activates in Grange
museum were put in the exhibition and members of UK parliament and
Afghan Embassy were attended, they appreciated the EENGO services
in the community.
A National football tournament was also held on 2 and 9 May 2004.
It took place in London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham at Wormwood
Scrubs. Players from 18 countries took part in the tournament. This
activity was funded by the Sport Relief. More than 700 people came
to watch the matches and enjoyed their spent time.
On Mandy 15th November 2004 an event was held in
the Bridge Park Complex and included: Concert, Film Show, Talking
about Cultural issues and the EENGO services, EENGO girl’s
and boy’s martial art performance, distribution of trophies,
gifts and presentation of the EENGO achievements.
A part from being invoved in the above sporting
activities and events we have been providing general help and advice
to our clients in different issues such as asylum, health, benefits,
education, employment and housing. We have been holding seminars
and training courses to improve our quality of services.
